Staying Active in Cold Weather
It may be hard to stay motivated during the winter months. Here are some tips to keep you moving in the cold.
Area Agency on Aging
The Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County (AAATC) is part of United Way of Tarrant County and receives funding from the Texas Department of Aging and Disabled Services.
The Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County supports the network of services for older citizens throughout Tarrant County through:
Advocacy
They identify priority issues and advocate for change. They support the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature election every two years. The elected delegates, age 60 and over, represent senior concerns to the state legislature.
Funding
Using Older Americans Act funds from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, they contract with local organizations to provide needed services. They also determine how some annual United Way campaign funds are used to fund older adult services in Tarrant County. United Way sponsors the Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County and provides it with in-kind support.

Through direct services, they help adults age 60 and over, and their caregivers, obtain services needed to help older adults remain in their own homes as long as possible. They provide benefits counseling services to those 60 and above, as well as to those who are otherwise eligible for Medicare. They also sponsor support groups and respite services for people who are caregivers of older adults.
Planning
They evaluate the need for aging services and develop service strategies.
Public Awareness
The Legal Awareness Program offers group presentations in order to inform older adults and service providers about benefits and issues affecting the lives of older adults. Call 817-258-8120 for more information.
2-1-1 Texas is the aging resources information and referral service provider for the Area Agency on Aging. Dialing 2-1-1 connects callers with free information about housing, transportation and other services for older adults and those who care for them.
