The food-labeling law requires eight major allergens to be printed on packaged goods.As defined by the Food and Drug Administration, the eight allergens are:

  • Milk
  • Egg
  • Peanuts
  • Tree nuts (such as almonds, cashew, walnuts)
  • Fish (such as bass, cod, flounder)
  • Shellfish (such as crab, lobster, shrimp)
  • Soy
  • Wheat
